The story
A century after Copernicus and a generation after Galileo's trial, Cellarius printed the sun-centred universe as a fact of decoration — gold at the centre, the planets wheeling out from it, and four corners of astronomers still arguing about it. The plate is dated 1660, which is to say it was published while the argument was live. Beautiful things are sometimes also positions.
